What is Yarn Bombing?

Yarn Bombing is a creative, community-led project delivered by Carlisle Matters that brings colour, joy, and artistic expression into public spaces across Carlisle and District. Using knitted and crocheted artwork created by local residents, volunteers, and groups, yarn bombing transforms everyday environments into vibrant displays that spark conversation, creativity, and community pride.

More than just visual art, our yarn bombing projects are about connection and inclusion. They provide accessible opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to get involved, learn new skills, share stories, and feel part of something positive. By working with community groups, schools, care settings, and local partners, we use creativity as a powerful tool to brighten spaces, celebrate local talent, and strengthen social connections throughout the city.
